Celebration of the Art of Production Design
Tonight we celebrate the Excellence in Production Design at the 28th Art Directors Awards. Once again I go solo without a nomination or an attachment to a show or a studio. It’s always interesting where I will be seated and with whom. Most likely it will be in the back and with people I do not know. I guess that’s how you network. I prepped the tux and then tried it on and realized that I am considerably thinner than I was the last time I wore this thing. Once I get back to work and pay down some debt that has built up over the last nine months, I will have to retire this 25 year old tux and get a new one. It’s hard to believe that I was at the first annual ADG awards some 28 years ago and now I’m going back for one more round.
Well, I was seated in the very back, table 511, with all set designers. At least this time they are my peers and not actors or other non-art folk like last year. The venue was nice and the after party was at the Hard Rock. I went for a bit but I was tired and didn’t really know anyone so I headed home. All-in-all a nice evening, a bit chilly outside, but the food was good. The host was funny and he did his best to move the show along as quickly as possible. Someday I might be closer to the stage and someday I may actually be nominated.
